MySmartPrice: Xiaomi users complain about ads in smartphones

The owners of Xiaomi smartphones spoke about the ads that appeared in the proprietary browser. This is reported by the publication MySmartPrice.

Media journalists drew attention to the complaints of Xiaomi users, who said that advertising appeared in the Google Chrome browser installed on smartphones. The company acknowledged the problem, but denied reports of a hack.

The material says that instead of the Google Chrome start page, when the browser starts, the page of the Mintnav recommendation service appears. The first complaints from users were recorded back in March 2023, when a Reddit visitor under the nickname igeek1er announced an ad attack.

MySmartPrice journalists turned to Xiaomi for a comment. The company responded that they had entered into a partnership agreement with Mintnav and replaced the start page of the browser built into smartphones. Xiaomi apologized to consumers and noted that the recommendation service can be turned off by going to the browser’s home page settings.

In early July, BetaNews journalists found ads in the new version of Windows 11. According to experts, the ad block appeared in the operating system settings.
