Elon Musk apparently wasn’t joking when he announced that Twitter would be turned into an “app for everything”. The addition of many minor features and a major rebranding of the social networking site (now known as X) is only the beginning of the changes. Now comes another novelty.
X will become an application for everything. Let’s talk to friends first
Elon Musk has just announced it (of course) in one of the posts on the X portal. The platform of the eccentric billionaire will now get the function of making audio and video calls to any person from X. This is a big change, because until now the service only allowed the exchange of private text messages. The billionaire announces that voice and video calls will work regardless of the device – both in mobile applications for Android and iOS, as well as on a computer with Windows and Mac. To initiate a conversation, you will not need to know the phone number, but only locate a specific person on X. According to Musk, the platform will thus become a real “global address book”.
Video and audio calls come to X. Works on iOS, Android, Mac and PC, no phone number required, X is an effective global address book. This set of elements is unique
– wrote on X Elon Musk.
This has not happened on X yet. Musk will also add an encryption option
Audio and video calls are of course not something new in the world of social media, but they are most often implemented in instant messengers. Twitter was actually a microblogging platform, which over time turned into a social network, but it works according to slightly different rules than, for example, Facebook.
Unfortunately, Elon Musk did not explain exactly how the call option will work. Thus, we do not know whether it will be possible, for example, to call any person with an account on X, or only selected ones. It is also not known when exactly the novelty will appear on the platform.
In response to one of the questions, the billionaire only admitted that X will offer the possibility of encrypting conversations, although this option will be implemented a little later. Encryption can be “dynamically” turned on and off, because – as Musk explains – this process must cause some delays, and in most cases the priority will not be encryption, but the quality and smoothness of the connection.
According to Musk’s far-reaching plan, X is to become an “app for everything”. The billionaire announced in the past that he would like it to appear on it, for example, the possibility of transferring funds or handling online payments. All, of course, so that we spend as much time as possible on the Musk platform.
