AI will write an email and edit the document for you. The long-awaited revolution from Google is already at work

Google has just introduced support for generative artificial intelligence to Gmail and Docs. AI will write an e-mail for us and rewrite the content of the document. And this is just the beginning of the possibilities that are to facilitate and speed up work.

Google admitted that the company wanted to take advantage of the extremely dynamically developing artificial intelligence in its programs. These features will finally be available to users.

AI will write the email itself. Just a few words

Gmail comes with a whole bunch of new features, the most important of which is writing e-mails. Google will ask us to summarize the subject of the message in a few words, and AI will develop the finished content on its own. If it is a continuation of correspondence, the artificial intelligence will read previous messages in the same thread and take into account the appropriate context when creating a new e-mail. AI is also supposed to take into account the appropriate tone of the message (e.g. more or less formal).

In addition, Gmail will be able to edit the messages we have already written on our own. The AI can independently change the form of the email from informal to formal, expand the message with more details based on hints, shorten the content and show several “fun versions” (whatever that means) of the message to choose from.

New features in Google Docs are designed to make your work easier and faster

A similar package of functions will also appear in Google Docs. The most important novelty is, of course, generating content based on a short description. It is enough to enter in the content of the document, for example, “job advertisement for the position of a regional sales representative”, and AI will automatically convert this sentence into a ready-made job advertisement, which you can edit yourself to adapt the document to your needs.

In addition, artificial intelligence can generate a summary of the entire document or its fragment, present the content in points and shorten the message, creating a more concise version. AI will also be able to redact the finished document based on a few user instructions. Google has found a place for a separate button to generate subsequent versions of the text, if we did not like the first one.

Google boasts that the novelties in both services are primarily to help us improve and speed up our work. And in fact, AI could completely revolutionize the way we use email and word processing. However, these features (at least for now) are not available to users of the free versions of Gmail and Docs.

Support from AI went only to owners of the paid Google Workspace package in the form of the Duet AI for Google Workspace Enterprise add-on. The new features are already working worldwide, both in the browser version on computers and in mobile applications. However, Google does not mention whether the solution works in Polish.
