We often do not realize how many of our neighbors may need help with the simplest activities. If they do not have support from relatives, they will be able to take advantage of a new form of benefit, i.e. neighborhood services. All thanks to the amendment to the Social Act, which gives such an opportunity. Thanks to it, neighbors will be able to support each other, and the commune may even pay remuneration to those willing to act. Everything will come into force on November 1, 2023.

What are Neighborhood Services? This form of aid will come into force in two months
Neighborhood services are not a financial form of support. It is simply a type of care service that is available to a lonely person who does not have any support. This applies to anyone who:
- farms alone;
- is not married;
- it has no ascendants or descendants.
It is worth remembering, however, that this is a flexible form of assistance that the commune council can adjust to the needs of residents. Thanks to this, this form of help will also be possible for people who are not lonely, but their relatives are unable to support them, if the commune council extends the criteria. It is also the municipality that will finance neighborhood services if a person needs support. And it may even be necessary for activities such as making appointments, helping to arrange a doctor and preparing a meal.
Who will be able to help the neighbors? The details of the cooperation will be determined by the commune
Neighbors, i.e. people living in the vicinity, who will report to the communes, will help those in need. It will also determine the detailed conditions for granting neighborhood services, their size and scope, as well as the method of settlement. According to the Act, the basis for such cooperation will be a contract of mandate, and the remuneration for an hour of work in this form is PLN 23.50 gross.
Who will be able to make extra money and help the neighbors at the same time? It must be an adult who is not a member of the needy neighbor’s family or is not a separate resident spouse. You must also live in the area where the services will be provided. What are the requirements?
- it is necessary to submit a declaration on psychophysical abilities to provide neighborhood services;
- you must have completed first aid training;
- you have to be accepted by the commune, i.e. the organizer of neighborhood services and the person you will be helping.
