iPhone 15 with a surprise in the box? This is how Apple wants to celebrate the beginning of the USB-C era

iPhone 15 will be the first smartphone in the history of Apple equipped with a USB-C port. In the box with the device, we will also find a cable adapted to the new connector. According to MacRumors, the company has gone a bit crazy in this aspect – we will receive a reinforced braided cable in the selected color version.

In October last year, the European Parliament approved regulations under which, from autumn 2024, the common and only charging port for all mobile devices sold in the European Union will be USB-C.

Apple is most dissatisfied with this decision. Although many smartphone manufacturers have long voluntarily switched to USB-C, iPhones – including last year’s models – still use the Lightning connector. However, that will soon change. There are many indications that that the iPhone 15, which will debut in a few weeks, will be the first Apple smartphone equipped with a USB-C port. , the Cupertino-based company wants to celebrate this change in a special way.

In the box with the iPhone, in place of the standard (and at the same time not very durable – as the writer of these words also found out) plastic Lightning cable, we find a reinforced braided USB-C cable – and in a color version corresponding to the variant of the device we choose.

However, Apple’s generosity has its limits here. As in previous years, also this time we will not find the charger (cube) in the box. The lack of it is explained by the company with concern for the environment,

The most powerful iPhone 15 with a new name? “Ultra” will replace “Pro Max”

Another novelty reported by the industry media is also to change the name of the most powerful and at the same time the most expensive variant of the iPhone. According to Andrew O’Hara, a journalist of the Apple Insider portal, last year’s iPhone 14 ProMax will be replaced by the iPhone 15 Ultra.

It is worth recalling that in February Mark Gurman from Bloomberg announced the appearance of the Ultra variant. However, he suggested at the time that it would be an additional fifth iPhone model, not an alternative to the Pro Max model. Who’s right here? We’ll find out in just a few weeks.

iPhone 15 can break another price record

According to information from Barclays analyst Tim Long, quoted by Macrumors, the prices of this year’s iPhone models will go up, and significantly. Based on data from Apple’s component suppliers, Long predicts the price of the iPhone 15 Pro will increase by about $100, while the price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max could increase by as much as $200.

Recall that last year Apple kept the prices of its devices unchanged. Of course, we are talking about the USA here, because in Poland we paid much more for the iPhone 14 than for its predecessor – and this includes by a significant weakening of the Polish currency against the dollar (I wonder if it will now work in the opposite direction – after all, the dollar has been getting cheaper in recent months).

If Tim Long’s predictions come true, the iPhone 15 price list will be as follows:

  • iPhone 15: $799 (unchanged);
  • iPhone 15 Plus: $899 (unchanged);
  • iPhone 15 Pro: up to $1,099 (up ~$100);
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max (or Ultra): Up to $1,299 (up ~$200).

At present, it is difficult to precisely determine how this will translate into iPhone prices in Poland, as customs duties, VAT and the aforementioned USD exchange rate must also be taken into account. However, it can be safely assumed that at such prices in the US, we will pay over PLN 7,000 for the basic iPhone 15 Pro model, and even around PLN 8,500 for the cheapest iPhone 15 Pro Max model. To say it’s expensive is basically saying nothing.
