Neither flat nor round, the shape of the Country it is different from what many have learned in their first years of life.

In the classroom, the planet is depicted as a perfect sphere, but satellite images and projections have shown that this is not the case.

From a space point of view, it appears round, but scientists have clarified over the years that it has an oblate spherical shape.

Why do some people believe the Earth is flat?

The National Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) explained that the planet is irregular and its radius is greater at the equator than at the poles due to the long-term effects of rotation.

“On a smaller scale, there is the topography: mountains have more mass than a valley, and therefore gravity is regionally stronger near the mountains,” it specified.

Mountains and trenches also distort the shape of the land, and variations in the gravitational field cause permanent hills and valleys. It was found that its diameter at the equator is 43 kilometers greater than that at the poles.

“All these large and small variations in the size, shape and distribution of the Earth’s mass cause small variations in the acceleration of gravity (or the “force” of gravity). These variations determine the shape of the planet’s liquid environment.

The European Space Agency has created a representation of the planet based solely on the gravity presented. Thus, it is possible to observe a gravitational hole in the Pacific Ocean.

Over the years, this representation of the Earth’s surface has also become popular, it has been made clear that it is a simulation of a gravity map.
