He created the “My denunciation” application. For a joke. The Russians made real denunciations of acquaintances

At least a thousand Internet users from Russia fell for the fake application “My denunciation”. One Russian created the program as a joke, but his compatriots willingly used it to complain about friends and neighbors who did not support the war with Ukraine.

“‘My denunciation’ is an application that helps citizens to submit non-anonymous or anonymous reports of violations of the law and illegal acts,” we read, which can be downloaded from the Google Play store. The creators of the app explain that it “makes life easier for citizens” and “helps create a safe public environment”. Despite the information that the program is not related to the Russian authorities, some Russians decided to take advantage of the offer to inform on their compatriots.

in the Russian newspaper “Poligon” and on the telegram channel Mozhem Obyasnit. The creator of the app is Vladimir, a computer scientist from Russia, who left the country right after the Russian army attacked Ukraine. At the beginning of this year for fun, he created an application that was supposed to be used to create humorous reports on friends. However, the matter got out of hand. Perhaps because of the logotype similar to that used by Russian offices, some Russians took the program seriously.

The application may not have been a spectacular success, but it was downloaded by at least 10,000 people. people. Half of them also decided to use the services offered and submit a denunciation. Most of the reports were, of course, joking, but it has been calculated that about a thousand users report their friends or neighbors quite seriously. Some people even asked in the application that the services take care of citizens who do not support the attack on Ukraine.

“I am asking you to send Alexei to serve in a special military operation [propagandowe określenie wojny – red.]. There were two attempts to hand him military summons, but he ignored them. I recommend sending him an electronic summons via the services. This person has combat experience from Chechnya,” wrote one of the applicants. “Such a young man, but against Putin’s policy. He calls on all Russians to lay down their arms in Ukraine and be taken prisoner!” another Russian stormed. Moreover, the creator of the app noticed that the number of true denunciations most often increased when the media reported on events such as drone attacks or riots. of them even contained the exact personal data of the reported persons and actual evidence of the acts committed, so a large part of users apparently did not bother to read the description of the program before downloading it from Google Play.
