The Verge: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 survives 400,000 folding cycles

YouTube blogger under the nickname Mrkeybrd checked out the resource of new folding smartphones. This is reported by The Verge.

During the live broadcast, YouTube channel team members folded and unfolded their smartphone screens. The experiment involved Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. At the end of the broadcast, which lasted several days, both devices failed.

The blogger noted that the device from Motorola broke down earlier – its hinge was damaged after 126,266 cycles. Galaxy Z Flip 5 lasted longer – the design failed only after 401,146 folding and unfolding cycles. From this, the specialist concluded that if the devices are folded about 100 times a day, then the Galaxy Z Flip 5 hinge resource will last for 10 years, Razr 40 Ultra – 3.5 years.

The author emphasized that his experiment is closer to real conditions of use than similar checks from manufacturers who tested devices using robotic equipment. So, during the check, the blogger lowered the devices into the water, broke eggs over the display and lowered the devices into flour.

Earlier, insiders said that a million users have purchased Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 foldable smartphones in South Korea. The smartphone maker managed to achieve a record figure for the week.
