OnMSFT: Microsoft will release an Xbox without a disc drive in 2025
Microsoft has planned to release the Xbox console without a disc drive. It is reported by the publication OnMSFT.
Media journalists referred to insider Nick Speschal, who declaredthat the company intends to release a similar console in 2025. Apparently, such a prefix will be based on the flagship Xbox Series X console, but due to the lack of a drive, it will be cheaper than the original device.
Speschal also noted that Microsoft intends to introduce some new hardware for gamers over the next few years. According to media journalists, the console without a drive will take an intermediate place in the line of Xbox Series X and S consoles.
At the moment, Microsoft has two current consoles – the flagship Series X and the simplified Series S, the latter is not equipped with a drive. Sony’s rival also has two consoles: the classic PlayStation 5 and the non-disc PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Insiders also believe that in the fall of 2023, Sony will introduce the PS5 with a removable drive.
At the end of July, Sony reported 40 million PS5 consoles sold. “PS5 inventory is ample and we are seeing pent-up demand finally being met,” said Jim Ryan, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
