The Information: TSMC will compensate Apple for defective chips

The American company Apple has agreed on a lucrative deal for the production of new processors. This is reported by The Information.

As it became known to the authors of the media, Apple has signed a lucrative contract with the Taiwanese company TSMC, according to which the manufacturer will release a new generation of processors for the corporation, created using a three-nanometer process technology. According to the agreement, the IT giant will purchase a “huge” amount of chips for new iPhones and Macs, while the contractor will compensate for the costs of producing defective samples.

The specialists of the publication explained that usually the customer has to pay for each unit produced, including defective copies. “Apple’s orders from TSMC appear to be large enough that the Taiwanese company can afford not to charge its partner for defective samples,” the authors noted. In this case, Tim Cook’s corporation will significantly save on the production of processors.

According to journalists, Apple will save quite a large amount. Experts noted that only 70 percent of the manufactured processors meet the requirements. The material says that Apple is “by far the largest customer of TSMC”, so the Taiwanese company went to meet the partner.

Earlier, insiders said that Apple for the first time will release a smartphone that will have 2 terabytes of internal memory. In the minimum configuration, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will have 256 gigabytes of internal memory.
