Kotaku: gamers complain about PS5 “burning” connected controllers

The PlayStation 5 console has encountered a USB issue that is causing the device to fail. This is reported by Kotaku.

The PS5 was complained about by attendees at the Evo 2023 esports event, which took place in Las Vegas over the weekend. Several gamers reported that the console literally burned their controllers connected via USB. Some users posted photos of damaged gamepads on social networks.

In particular, the user Twitter under the nickname Kyoku236HS, he said that the gamepad had to be literally pulled out of the USB connector, as the plastic parts of the cable were melted. According to many users, their gamepads were not damaged, but the wires through which the controllers were connected to the console got very hot.

Sony did not comment on the incident. According to journalists, the problem could arise due to the fact that the consoles were used almost around the clock for several days. “Prefixes just went beyond normal use in unusual circumstances,” the authors of Kotaku noted. Journalists also noted that Reddit users complained about such cases.

In early August, Sony released a major update for the PlayStation 5. The update added support for external SSDs up to 8 terabytes and Dolby Atmos devices.
