The first leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League between AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb was postponed after the death of a Greek fan in a fight, UEFA announced in a statement published on Tuesday (8).
During the early hours of the morning, a 22-year-old Greek fan was stabbed in a clash between the “ultras” of the two teams, who were supposed to play this Tuesday at the AEK stadium, in Nea Filadelfeia, on the outskirts of Athens.
UEFA deplores in the strongest possible terms the appalling incidents that took place in Athens last night and resulted in the loss of a life.
Tonight’s match between AEK Athens FC and GNK Dinamo will be postponed.

UEFA, which “regrets the appalling incidents” and says it “hopes that those responsible for this terrible act will be caught and brought to justice”, explained that it was in discussions with both clubs to postpone the match to 18 or 19 August.
The return game, scheduled for Zagreb on August 15, is maintained, as well as the ban on fans of both teams from attending the stadiums as visitors.
