This year, Netflix decided to take seriously users who share their accounts with family or friends with whom they do not live. Initially, the platform tested various ways to block shared accounts, and in May decided to introduce such a solution on a large part of the markets, including Poland.
Netflix is blocking account sharing globally
Now it turns out that the new strategy has paid off for Netflix, which is why – – the owners of the platform decided to extend it to all countries in the world where Netflix is present. On Thursday, the platform began blocking access to movies and series from shared accounts in India and the last few countries where the ban was not implemented earlier.
The company also admitted that it does not intend to introduce the option of paying for an additional user in countries where such an option has not yet been introduced. Netflix explains this decision with “low penetration of (these) markets”. In Poland and some other countries, the platform allows you to share your account with an additional person from outside your household for an additional fee (PLN 9.99 per month in Poland). Netflix encourages you to simply transfer profiles from “borrowed” accounts to your own in “affected” countries.
. They are surprisingly good to say the least. And this despite the fact that many users have recently declared a boycott of the platform. In the last quarter, the number of subscribers increased by 5.89 million (to 238.39 million), and the company’s revenues increased by 2.7 percent. (up to USD 8.19 billion). In the same period last year, Netflix lost almost a million users.
To do this, simply hover over your profile avatar and select “Move Profile”. As a reminder, for now, the cheapest Netflix plan in Poland costs PLN 29 (Basic), the average PLN 43 (Standard), and the higher PLN 60 (Premium). However, we still do not have access to the cheapest option with ads, which is available e.g. in Usa.
