Poles should learn from the Czechs? “There’s less of that janushness”

They dream of a four-day working week, flexible schedules and unlimited holidays. All because the Czechs follow a certain principle: work is for man, not man for work. It turns out that in this matter we Poles are very different from them.

Concern for maintaining a balance between private and professional life is somehow inscribed in the Czech mentality. It turns out, however, that in this respect they do not differ only from Poles. “I discovered that Czechs work to live, while Canadians and Americans live to work,” said artist David Strauzz in an interview with magazin.aktualne.cz. He moved to Prague from Boston a few years ago – and he doesn’t seem to regret the decision.

In Poland “needed now”. In the Czech Republic – not necessarily

– My observations show that in the Czech Republic there is a rule that work is for man, not man for work. And certainly there is no “needed now” frequent in Poland – says Wojciech Kantor, a licensed Prague guide and tour leader with the Business Insider portal. It seems that Czechs have a completely different approach to work than Poles.

Our neighbors value their free time much more. Making a career is not the most important goal in life. – I have the impression that there is also less such “januszość”, the employee is respected more, treated more as a partner, not from above. Well, in a word – it’s different than in Poland – says Marta Pasińska who lives in the Czech Republic in an interview with the portal.

Little Friday, little Saturday in Czech

As you can see, our resemblance to the Czechs is sometimes apparent. While we Poles take more overtime and spend weekends at the office, for Czechs Thursday is a little Friday, and Friday – a little Saturday. – When I moved here, I thought that Czechs were mentally similar to Poles, but it turned out that they have a much more carefree approach to life – says Katarzyna Kandefer from eurodesk.pl. – That’s why local corporations employ so many foreigners: because Czechs are often not interested in promotion. This is unthinkable in Polandbecause everyone is focused on their career.
