The latest update (4.04) for The Witcher 3 is now available on all hardware platforms. There are a lot of changes, but this time CD Projekt focused primarily on users of the Nintendo Switch console.

The new update for The Witcher 3 introduces some changes to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which have already appeared on other platforms with patch 4.0. This is primarily about additional content inspired by the Netflix series. Users of the Nintendo portable console can also count on a number of fixes that will improve the gameplay.

Another major change that applies to all devices this time is is to improve the cross-save function, thanks to which we can, for example, start our game on the PlayStation 5 console, and then continue it on the Xbox Series X or on the computer.

Below is a complete list of the most important changes introduced by Update 4.0.4:

pc:

  • Fixed an issue where GOG achievements were unlocking in the base game instead of the Complete Edition.
  • Max FPS will now be correctly calculated with DLSS FPS enabled.
  • Fixed an issue where character hair could be too light with ray tracing enabled in some cases.
  • Bald Mountain – Fixed a crash that would occur when ray tracing was enabled but all other ray tracing options were disabled.
  • The Beast of White Orchard – Fixed an issue where loading some checkpoint saves could cause the game to crash with ray tracing enabled.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would launch without REDlauncher and open a tab in the browser asking for permission to “Use Cyberpunk 2077 with an Epic Games account”.
  • Fixed an issue where controller buttons could still be active when paused.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a second high sensitivity cursor to appear in the main menu when the “Hardware Cursor” option was disabled.

CONSOLES

  • Fixed an issue where some hairstyles from the extra “Beards and Hairstyles Bundle” would clip through the Nilfgaardian Helmet on old-gen consoles.
  • Fixed an issue with flickering textures when playing Gwent on next-gen consoles.
  • Mouse Tower – Fixed an issue where on previous generation consoles, the conversation with Keira would sometimes not activate after fighting the Plague Maiden.
  • Cabaret – fixed graphic glitches with the Dandelion model that appeared on old-gen consoles before and during the staged fight.
  • Last Wish and Blindfold – Fixed an issue that could cause the game to freeze on PlayStation 5 while completing these quests.
  • Improved game stability during and after loading save files – applies to saves from long games with ray tracing enabled.
  • Fixed an issue where the cloud save statuses in the UI would not update correctly on Xbox Series X when Cross Progression was enabled.

Visual effects (PC and next-gen consoles)

  • Fixed an issue where fog could appear to be 2D generated in certain places.
  • Fixed an issue where the reflection of the sky on the water surface could be missing in places like White Orchard, Velen, and Toussaint with ray tracing enabled.
  • Grass collision now works correctly.
  • Added HDR calibration option.
  • Fixed an issue where the mountains in Kaer Morhen could disappear when changing the camera angle while underwater.
  • Get Junior – Removed unnecessary water reservoir from Oxenfurt’s sewers.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the loading screen to get stuck when ray tracing was enabled.

Quests and gameplay

  • Added an option to change potions and apply oils from the radial menu.
  • Fixed an issue that caused Geralt’s health to drop rapidly while diving.
  • Final Trial – Fixed an issue where leaving the quest area and returning could cause Lambert to be standing in the water instead of sitting on the boat, thus blocking progress.

Other

  • Fixed issues with loading saves when using cross-progression on multiple computers with the same GOG account.

Online features – Nintendo Switch

  • A cross-platform progression feature has been added to replace the existing save file integration introduced on Nintendo Switch in Update 3.6. Your recent saves will be automatically uploaded to the cloud, allowing you to continue playing on other platforms. Cross-platform progress works for any save type. The feature will be available after logging into your account. Regardless of the platform you choose, you must have a GOG account.

Bonus Content – Nintendo Switch

  • Added a new quest in Velen – In the Shadow of the Eternal Fire. The awards are inspired by the Netflix series The Witcher.
  • Added Dandelion’s alternate appearance inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series. You can enable it by going to Options/Gameplay.
  • Added an alternate look for Nilfgaardian armor inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series. You can enable it by going to Options/Gameplay.
  • Added Korean and Simplified Chinese dubbing. Availability varies by region.

Changes to make the game easier – Nintendo Switch

  • Added option to quickly cast characters. It allows you to change characters and cast them without having to open the radial menu. To find it, go to Options / Gameplay.
  • Adjusted the minimum height for fall damage, allowing the player to survive falls from greater heights.
  • Herbs can now be harvested in a single interaction – no extra loot window.
  • Added options that dynamically hide the minimap and quest objectives when not in combat or when the player is not using Witcher Senses. Go to Options / Video / Interface configuration / Hide minimap while exploring and Hide targets while exploring.
  • Added slow walk option on controller. Geralt will walk slower after moving the left stick slightly forward.
  • Added alternate sprint mode on controller. Geralt will start running after pressing the left stick. To find this mode, go to Options / Control Settings.
  • Added an option to prevent camera reversal from affecting target acquisition. To find it, go to Options / Control Settings.
  • The radial menu has been improved so that bombs, bolts and other items can now be automatically switched without opening the inventory.
  • Added an option to scale the font size of subtitles, NPC conversations, and dialogue selections. To adjust it, go to Options / Video / Interface configuration.
  • Minor fixes, improvements and changes have been made to make gameplay easier, including some secrets for players to discover.
  • Added an option to change potions and apply oils from the radial menu.
  • Added an option to automatically apply oils in combat.
  • Added a new default map filter. It hides some icons, such as question marks and boat icons, to make the map clearer. The icons can be re-enabled by switching the map mode to “All”.

Gameplay – Nintendo Switch

  • Added Full Combat Rebalance 3 mod by Flash_in_the_flesh, which includes balance changes as well as gameplay fixes. We focused on its content – some elements have been improved compared to the default version of the mod, while others have been omitted.
  • Wolf School Gear – Fixed an issue where the chest in the signal tower could not be opened.
  • From Far Away – Fixed an issue where a chest in a bandit hideout could be missing a blueprint.
  • Bad News – Fixed a bug where Geralt couldn’t talk to the blacksmith or give him a letter.
  • Echoes of the Past – Fixed an issue that caused the quest to freeze after defeating Fogs, making it impossible to talk to Yennefer.
  • Wine Wars – Fixed an issue where the quest could not be completed if the player destroyed the monster slots required for the quest while exploring.
  • Fixed an issue where the Kaer Morhen Wolf Grandmaster Gear did not require Masterwork items.
  • Various minor fixes to quests and cutscenes.
