Remote purchase of tickets for PKP domestic connections is nothing new. Regardless of the route, we can buy tickets both via the browser and in one of several PKP applications. However, obtaining tickets for international routes was very difficult, because in many cases you had to go to the ticket office at the station. As in the times of a rightly bygone era.
We can buy tickets for PKP international connections on a smartphone
The exceptions were SuperPromo International offers or IRT tickets to Germany, Lithuania and Austria (EN Chopin and Nightjet trains) – these could be purchased remotely from a computer (as part of the e-IC system). Now, the Polish railway carrier is introducing a real breath of modernity, because it will enable the remote purchase of tickets for almost all connections abroad, from the level of the PKP Intercity mobile application. So we can conveniently buy tickets for connections on our smartphone:
- SuperPromo International – to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and Germany;
- IRT tickets for adults and children – to Germany, Lithuania and for seats on night trains to Austria;
- eNRT tickets for adults, youth and children (ticket in international transport according to the NRT tariff combined with seat reservation) to or from Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

If you purchase an eNRT ticket in the app, you will be able to pay for the transport of your dog and bicycle. What’s more, eNRT tickets can be returned and exchanged for others, but for now only by way of a complaint. Only after some time such a possibility is to be introduced directly in the carrier’s system. Still, we have nothing to complain about, because until now tickets to the Czech Republic and Slovakia could only be purchased in the non-refundable option. Unfortunately, for the time being, we will not be able to buy eNRT tickets for trips to Hungary. PKP Intercity explains that this is due “to date, the Hungarian carrier has not been integrated into pan-European system solutions for ticket control”.
“Tickets for international journeys available in the mobile application are a response to the needs of our travelers” – said Tomasz Gontarz, Vice-President of the Management Board of PKP Intercity, in a press release. Gontarz adds that PKP understands the importance of remote sales channels and promises to further develop them. He also explains that the introduction of international tickets to the application was a “quite logistical challenge” due to the need to sign relevant agreements with carriers from abroad.
