Older iPhone models have been fetching exorbitant prices at online auctions for some time now. Of course, we are not talking about the so-called “stimulants”, but about factory-packaged copies that spent years on collectors’ shelves, gaining value.
auctioned off a sealed first-generation iPhone from 2007 for $42,000. If this amount seems high to you, you’d better sit down. The auction of another copy of the original iPhone has just ended. In this case, the starting price was $10,000, and the final price was a staggering $190,000, which gives us the equivalent of PLN 750,000.

iPhone sold for 750,000 zlotys. We know why it’s so expensive
Why such a big difference in price? It turns out, that the model in question is a real “white raven” in the world of Apple devices. Most iPhones offered to collectors are equipped with 8 GB of internal memory, while the auctioned copy has only 4 GB.
It is worth recalling that the model of the first iPhone from 2007, which had 4 GB of memory and was withdrawn from sale after only two months from the premiere – due to very little interest from customers. So we can say that it was the feature that contributed to its market failure that has now increased the collector’s value of the device.
The auction house LCG Auctions, which described the just sold copy as the “holy grail” of iPhones, this year has already sold two other collectible models of the Apple smartphone, but for much lower amounts – 63 and 40 thousand dollars respectively.
How was the iPhone born? Steve Jobs didn’t want it at all
On June 29, 2007, the premiere of the first iPhone took place. The device that changed the way we interact with technology was born in pain. The first prototypes disappointed Steve Jobs.
You will take it
– said Jobs when he saw the first prototype of the device.
I do not want it. I know it works, I understand, great, thanks. But it’s shit%*#*
– added. Only the project created by John Ive, the most distinguished designer of Apple, made Jobs nod his head and allowed further work on the “iPod with Internet”.
