The deadlines for making a decision on the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympics in Paris have been announced. The chairman of the organizing committee of the 2024 Games, Tony Estangue, is quoted by Inside the Games.
“The decision will not be made until September 2023,” Estanguet said. He stressed that it will also be taken into account whether athletes receive permission from sports federations to participate in qualifying competitions and whether the candidacies are approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Earlier it became known that on July 26, 2023, the IOC will send invitations to the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to the 2024 Games. It was noted that Russia, Belarus and Guatemala, suspended since September 2022, will not receive letters.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
