The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has received “few” complaints against Netflix. Poles complain about the decision of the platform, because of which you can no longer share one account with people living in different places.

Netflix has started to fight account sharing. Poles also felt the change in the platform’s policy, which of course met with great criticism on the web. Currently, Netflix only allows you to share your account with people you actually live with, or requires you to pay an additional fee (PLN 9.99/month) for each family member or friend who lives at a different address.

It turns out that Poles did not like the fact that Netflix enforced the regulations so much that some of them decided to complain about the platform to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. As reported, UOKiK has received “few complaints” from consumers about Netflix. Two of them concern the ban on account sharing. This fact was confirmed by MaƂgorzata Cieloch, press secretary of the office. She declared that both complaints would first be carefully analyzed by UOKiK, and then a decision would be made on possible “specific administrative actions”. Netflix fights against account sharing

As part of the fight against account sharing, Netflix remembers the home address of the account owner and blocks sub-accounts that connect regularly from other locations. This can be troublesome when we use, for example, several routers or internet providers in one apartment, or we use Netflix mainly while traveling. The platform defends itself that in order for the account not to be blocked, it is enough to log in to it once a month from your home Wi-Fi. However, this is not always possible. In such a situation, it is necessary to confirm that the device belongs to a specific household, e.g. with a code from an e-mail.
