Netflix takes all measures to prevent (including in Poland) the use of shared accounts with friends and family. According to the regulations of the platform, the account can only be shared with people with whom we actually live under the same roof. In recent weeks, the service has started to cut off from shared user accounts, asking before the screening, among other things, for the code sent to the owner’s e-mail address. Some people will probably have to give up Netflix, because its prices – especially in the package providing 4K resolution – will be considered too high to pay for the subscription alone. However, those who decide to switch to their own account will get a new facilitation.
Netflix will make it easier for users to transfer data
Netflix has just released a new tool that will allow you to transfer data from a shared profile to another, existing account. This means that people who need to give up using Netflix to share with family or friends will now be able to move all their activity elsewhere. For example, it may be an account that has not been used for a long time or belongs to a new roommate with whom we plan to jointly pay for the subscription. This is convenient because the data stored on the profile includes not only the viewing history, “my list” and viewing settings, but the data that the algorithm uses to suggest potentially interesting content to us. So after changing the account, the user profile should look like the old one. Of course, those willing will still be able to transfer data from the old profile to a completely new account (this option was introduced last year). How to find the tool? Just hover over your profile avatar and select “Move Profile”.
It is difficult to assess whether such a novelty will convince anyone to give up paying for an account with people they do not live with, but it will certainly facilitate the transition process. As a reminder, for now, the cheapest plan in Netflix costs PLN 29 (Basic), the average PLN 43 (Standard), and the higher PLN 60 (Premium). Poland still lacks the cheapest option with advertisements, which is available e.g. in Usa.
