This Wednesday, the Nicaraguan authorities announced a traffic accident in the department of Río San Juan, on the border with Costa Rica.
This accident killed an Ecuadorian migrant and injured 17 other people, of different nationalities such as Colombians, Venezuelans and Ecuadorians.
The event took place Tuesday afternoon in the rural community of Palo de Arco in the municipality of San Carlos, when the van in which the 18 undocumented migrants were traveling overturned, according to the preliminary police report.
The victim was identified as Allison Nicol Macías Cumbicus, 21, who died instantly as a result of the serious injuries she sustained, according to the police report, quoted by the radio station La Nueva Radio Ya, which belongs to the Communication and Citizenship Council of the Nicaraguan Government.
The injured were taken to Luis Felipe Moncada Regional Hospital in the Nicaraguan city of San Carlos.
The undocumented immigrants traveled in a double-cab van with a Nicaraguan license plate from which the driver, whose identity is unknown, fled.
