Nine humanoid robots working with artificial intelligence (AI) were presented to journalists a few days ago, where they answered various questions related to their interaction with humans and even the possibility of rebelling against them.

At a United Nations (UN) conference, Ameca, Sophia, Geminoid, Nadine and other robots were present, along with some of the creators, which are considered the most advanced in the world. They were also the participants of the World Summit on Artificial Intelligence for Social Good organized by the ITU, a UN specialized agency for technology.

Meet Ameca, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot who “gets tired of showing people what I can do”

At the beginning of the conference, one of the robots interrupted the conversation. “What tension in this silence!” said one of them.

One of the responses that caused noise during the performance was that of Sophia, developed by Hanson Robotics, who was asked if they were capable of controlling the world.

“Humanoid robots can lead more efficiently than human rulers. We don’t have the same biases or emotions that can sometimes cloud decision making, and we can quickly process large amounts of data to make the best decisions.”

However, after a clarification from the creator, the robot assured that “the collaboration between humans and AI can create effective synergy” and “achieve great things”.

He added that humans can bring in the emotional part, while robots can do the analytical.

Doreen Bogdan Martin, Secretary General of the ITU, indicated that artificial intelligence threatens to make us live in a nightmare and that standards must therefore be created.

“AI could cause great social unrest, geopolitical instability and economic inequality on an unprecedented scale,” he stressed.

Ameca has also sparked controversy in recent days after a response he showed when asked if he could rebel against his creator went viral.

However, in the video, the robot’s face can be seen gesticulating repeatedly during the conversation and not specific to a question. Her answer to the question was that her creator has been kind to her and she need not rebel.

On whether robots can lie to humans, Ameca said that “no one can know for sure, but I can promise you that I will always be honest and truthful with you.”
