Las Vegas, which is famous for its sophisticated architecture, has just acquired another unusual building. It stood in the very center of the largest agglomeration in Nevada, right next to the popular Las Vegas Strip road. The construction of the Sphere at The Venetian Resort – because that is the name of the facility – began in 2018, and the cost of the entire operation amounted to a trifle of USD 2.3 billion (almost PLN 9.5 billion).
An unusual show to start. They displayed the Moon, the Earth and… a big eye
The first show, which took place on Tuesday, was organized on the occasion of American Independence Day. The skyline of Las Vegas was then lit up by the globe, the Moon, a basketball, and even a giant eyeball. American symbols, a huge US flag and fireworks were also displayed during the show. The ball has a diameter of approx. 111 meters and inside it will be an arena for over 20,000 spectators. spectators (17,000 seats), used for artistic shows. It will be, because so far the interior of the building is not yet available to guests.
The building from the bottom to the very top was covered with LED panels. Each of them contains 48 LEDs that can independently display one of 256 million colors. The company responsible for the construction boasts that together the panels cover an area of 580,000 m2. square feet (approx. 54,000 square meters), creating the world’s largest LED screen. What’s more, the ball – depending on the needs – will display any, both static and dynamic images.
It is worth mentioning that Las Vegas was already famous for another, but similar attraction, which is located on Fremont Street. The sky above the 420-meter section of the street is covered with a structure consisting of hundreds of colorful LED panels. Each night, the panels are used to display various shows, and those who wish can fly over the heads of the onlookers in a zip-line.
