Elon Musk and his people are apparently not happy with the launch of Mark Zuckerberg’s new social network. Meta and her boss have never hidden the fact that Threads is supposed to be the strongest competitor for Twitter, so it will necessarily be somewhat similar.
Meta will face trial for “using Twitter’s intellectual property”.
“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” Alex Spiro, Twitter’s lawyer, writes in a letter published on Twitter. a new social network based on information that has been extracted from the social network currently owned by Elon Musk. Spiro points out that he believes Meta committed “systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation of trade secrets” of Twitter –
How is this possible? Meta was supposed to take over dozens of employees who left or were fired from Twitter last year. Elon Musk’s website believes that they had access to “trade secrets” and a lot of “confidential information” regarding the activities of the portal. When the idea to develop the Threads app came up, Meta’s goal was to assign people to the project who previously worked for Twitter and still had “improperly stored” documents taken from the San Francisco-based social network. This was supposed to facilitate and speed up the work of the company headed by Mark Zuckerberg, but at the same time – according to Twitter’s lawyer – violate “both state and federal laws.”
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have not commented on the whole matter. The former on Thursday only wrote that “competition is fine, but cheating is not.” Andy Stone, who is responsible for communications at Meta, stated that “nobody on the Threads engineering team has previously been a Twitter employee.” It is not clear what evidence Elon Musk’s website found for the actions of the Facebook owner and whether the case will end in a settlement or will (probably) be a long and costly court battle for both sides.
