The grandmother of Nahel M., the minor who was killed by police at a police checkpoint in Nanterre, asked that her dead grandson be stopped as a pretext to sow violence, in connection with the riots that have plagued France for five years.

“I want the cop who killed my grandson, that’s all I want. The police are here, fortunately they are there, and to the people who are destroying, I tell them to stop,” the detainee’s grandmother, identified as Nadia, stressed in statements to the television channel bfm.

He also stated that the rioters are using his grandson’s death as a “pretext” and tearfully stressed that he is already dead and that neither the schools nor the vehicles nor the buses are to blame.

“I trust in justice,” also added the dead young man’s grandmother, who was 17 years old and of Arab descent.

Last night, according to the latest available official balance, at least 719 people were arrested, 45 police officers were injured, there were 871 fires on public roads and there was damage to 74 buildings.

Despite the still voluminous figures, the Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that last night was “calmer” than the previous one.

During the night, an attack with a vehicle was registered in the suburbs of Paris. In the small town of L’Haÿ les Roses, a car crashed into the home of mayor Vincent Jeanbrun, of the conservative Republican party, early Sunday morning and then caught fire.

The woman and one of their two young children suffered minor injuries as they left the home.

Jeanbrun, who was at City Hall at the time of the attack coordinating the response to the riots, denounced an “attempted assassination” on networks.

According to the prosecution, initial indications suggest that “the vehicle was launched with the intention of setting fire to the house”.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne called the attack “unbearable” and the Association of French Mayors (AMF) called a meeting for municipalities across the country at noon on Monday.

According to AMF president David Lisnard, “150 town halls or municipal buildings have been attacked since Tuesday.”
