My Photo Stream or Photo Sequence was launched in 2011 along with iCloud as a free method of syncing photos between iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac and other corporate devices. However, Apple has announced that this service will close permanently on July 26, 2023.

My Photo Stream has offered free storage for over a decade and is an alternative to iCloud Photos, which is now more expensive in the UK and other countries.

The reason why Apple discontinued My Photo Stream isn’t clear, though the decision could prompt users to subscribe to the paid version of iCloud since the free version has limited space. However, there is an increase in prices.

Apple recommends the following in its statement:

“From now on, the iCloud Photos app is the best way to keep the photos and videos you take up to date across all your devices and securely stored in iCloud. If iCloud Photos is already enabled on all your devices, you don’t need to do anything else — your photos are already synced to iCloud. To check this, on iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > your name > iCloud. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click your name, then click iCloud. Make sure it says “On” next to Photos on all devices.

This is only useful if the photos are not already saved in your photo library. All photos uploaded to the service before that date stays in iCloud for 30 days from the upload date.
