Analysts at IDC have predicted an increase in the popularity of foldable smartphones. This was reported on the company’s website.

Experts estimate that global shipments of foldable phones will reach 13.5 million units in 2022. If we consider that in 2021 manufacturers shipped 8.1 million pieces of gadgets to the market, then the growth in 2022 will be 66.6 percent. According to IDC’s long-term forecast, foldable device shipments will reach 41.5 million units in 2026. The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) from 2022 to 2026 will be 38.7 percent.

Describing the future of foldable devices, analysts noted that the commercial segment of the market is “ripe” for the distribution and consumption of such devices. However, experts believe that folding devices will still not be in the mainstream in the coming years – smartphones with a classic form factor will retain the leading role.

The report states that Samsung has and will continue to have a huge impact on the market: “Recently updated models will surpass their predecessors and attract more consumer attention in this category.” It is believed that the cost of folding smartphones will gradually decrease and prove to be adequate for the consumer – despite high inflation rates.

In August, TrendForce analysts said that by the end of 2022, foldable devices will occupy about one percent of the smartphone market. In two years, the share of devices with a foldable display could be more than 2.5 percent.
