At least 10 people were killed in a Russian bombing of a restaurant in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, on Tuesday. A final assessment this Wednesday indicated that fifty of those inside the property were injured.
“The bodies of nine people, including three minors, were pulled from the rubble and 56 people were injured, including a child born in 2022,” Ukraine’s emergency service said on Telegram.
In the restaurant were three Colombians, including the writer Héctor Abad Faciolince and the former peace commissioner Sergio Jaramillo.
Four killed in Russian attack on Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk
The emergency services reported that seven people were found alive in the rubble of the Ria Pizza restaurant, popular with soldiers and journalists.
According to Ukrainian police, Russia launched two S-300 surface-to-air missiles at the city, which had a population of 150,000 before the war.
In addition to Abad and Jaramillo, journalist Catalina Gómez was also present. The three were dining at the restaurant with Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina, 37, who is “in critical condition with a head injury likely caused by flying glass and beams,” a statement said.
Abad and Jaramillo had traveled to Ukraine to “express the solidarity of Latin America with the people of Ukraine in the face of the barbaric and illegal Russian invasion”.
A dusty chef, Roslan, 32, said there were “quite a lot of people” in the restaurant at the time of the attack and, pointing to himself, added: “I was lucky.”
