WKRN: iPhone mistakenly called emergency services to dancing users

US iPhone users have complained about the increased number of false positives of the accident detection function. This is reported by the TV channel WKRN.

Apple smartphones called emergency services to the Bonnaroo dance festival last weekend in Coffee County, Tennessee, according to media journalists. Experts suggested that the devices mistakenly identified an emergency by reacting to the screams and sudden movements of their owners. According to the authors, the festival was attended by about 80 thousand people.

Coffee County 911 communications center spokesman Scott LeDuc noted that the number of emergency calls in the region increased by about five times over the weekend. It is believed that most of the call was made automatically using Apple smartphones.

A spokesman for emergency services said that messages were sent to festival attendees telling them to temporarily disable the feature on their iPhones. LeDuc stressed that after that, the number of false calls dropped sharply.

At the end of December, 2022 journalists of the Appleinsider edition told that function of detection of accident in new iPhone caused growth in the number of false emergency calls. So, the devices mistakenly determined that their owners had an accident when they were engaged in active sports.
