You can avoid paying TV and radio license fees. There are legal ways to be exempt from paying a subscription. However, only a few can take advantage of them.

is a fee for having a radio or television receiver. Currently, the fees for owners of the radio alone are PLN 8.70 per month, and PLN 27.30 for owners of TV sets. Publicly available data show that Poland’s mandatory radio and TV subscription contributes only less than 10 percent. households. These fees are highly controversial. The funds from it are transferred, among others, to local radio stations and which, according to many, present government propaganda, which they do not want to contribute to. However, these are not voluntary fees, so despite internal disagreement, they must be paid regularly. Many Poles risk a penalty and do not pay the subscription, but there are also legal ways not to pay the fee.

Who can not pay for the RTV subscription?

The easiest way is to get rid of the TV and radio from your home. If you do not have any of these devices in your household, you can deregister the receiver and do not pay the subscription fee. To do this, go to the nearest branch or go to the website. In the “Data change” section, select the “Receiver deregistration” option and complete the appropriate form. In such a case, authorized employees of the Financial Service Center of Poczta Polska may check whether there really are any of these receivers in the house. During such a visit, inspectors must present an appropriate document. “There is no legal and technical possibility to randomly send requests from the database to appear at any post office and provide proof of registration of the receiver and payment. Poczta Polska does not use such practices” – the Poczta supplemented information on inspections.

You can also be exempted from paying radio and television license fees. There are a few groups that do not have to comply with this obligation. However, you must first appear at the post office and present documents confirming that you can actually use such rights. A declaration is also required. You do not have to pay the RTV subscription:

  • persons over 75 years of age,
  • persons over 60 years of age who receive an old-age pension whose monthly value does not exceed half of the average remuneration,
  • people with the 1st disability group,
  • people who are completely unable to work,
  • persons with a significant degree of disability or permanent or temporary total incapacity to work on a farm,
  • deaf people with total deafness or bilateral hearing impairment,
  • blind people whose visual acuity does not exceed 15%;
  • unemployed people,
  • veterans who are war or military invalids or their families,
  • persons entitled to cash benefits, e.g. permanent allowance, temporary allowance or pre-retirement allowance.
