This Thursday afternoon, the US Coast Guard announced that the Titan submarine had suffered a catastrophic loss in the pressurization chamber and families have already been notified.

Hours earlier, an ROV robotic vehicle had found the stern cone about 500 meters (1,600 feet) from the Titanic’s wreckage, as well as other remains of the ship, which experts analyzed.

A “debris area” was discovered this Thursday morning near the submarine’s search area titanicthe United States Coast Guard reported, continuing to search for the ship with five people on board, in distress since last Sunday, June 18. At around 2 p.m., both the Coast Guard commander and the OceanGate Expeditions company confirmed the deaths of the five sailors.

“Remote-controlled vehicles will still be on site collecting information,” said John Mauger, commander of the US Coast Guard’s 1st district.

Mauger added that they were able to classify part of the pressurized chamber of the submarine that disappeared last Sunday, June 18. Another expert added that five large pieces of wreckage from the ship have been found.

“We found the bow cone, then we found a huge piece of debris and we found the front of the pressure chamber which was the very beginning of a catastrophic event. Shortly after we found another debris concentration camp, we found the other half of the pressurized chamber there, actually the whole pressurized unit,” he said.

The commander also said they are in a hostile environment and what was found is consistent with a catastrophic submarine implosion so you can’t have a view on whether the bodies can be recovered.

“In the search area, a field of wreckage was discovered by an ROV (remotely controlled vehicle) near the Titanic,” the Coast Guard said on its Twitter account. “The experts of the unified command are evaluating the information,” he added.

The area where “a debris field has been discovered within the search area near the Titanic”, which lies at a depth of approximately 3,800 meters.

The search for the submarine Titan, which disappeared last Sunday while trying to reach the Titanic’s wreckage, has been intense all week.

They traveled on board British millionaire Hamish Harding, president of Action Aviation company; the Pakistani Shahzada Dawood, vice-president of Engro, and his son Suleman – both also of British nationality -; the experienced French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet; and Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate Expeditionsthe company operating the submarine, which charged $250,000 per tourist.

The search, which included ships, robots and aircraft, had entered a critical phase on Thursday following the 96 hours of emergency oxygen available to the OceanGate Expeditions company’s Titan submarine.

The mother ship Polar Prince, of the Canadian company Horizon Maritime, lost all contact with the submarine less than two hours after beginning a dive that should have lasted about seven hoursto visit the remains of the legendary Titanic transatlantic, which is almost 4,000 meters deep and 600 km from the mainland, in Newfoundland.
