Less than two years after his next presidential election, which will be held on November 5, 2024, The United States has started registering candidates to occupy the White House from 2025 to 2029.

As in recent years, the candidates for the 2024 elections represent the two main political parties in the North American country: the Democrat and the Republican.

So far, nine Republican Party candidates have run for president, as opposed to the three Democratic Party candidates. The latter include Joe BidenHe current president of the United Stateswho won the 2020 election against the former president donald trump. Both will return to the polls, but they will also face new names gaining traction in the country.

Trump, a businessman and politician, became president of the United States in 2017, after winning the election against Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016. His administration was marked by its controversial immigration policies, new economic policies and slow response to the pandemic. -19.

In November 2020, the conservative lost the election to Joe Biden, and his refusal to accept the results led to the attack on the United States Capitol in January 2021, an act that led to a legal investigation into him.

Nikki Haley

Haley was the second to announce her candidacy for president of the United States for the Republican Party, which she has represented since 2011, when she was elected governor of the state of South Carolina, until 2017.

During the Trump administration, the Republican appointed her his ambassador to the United Nations, a position accepted by the Senate. In 2018, there were rumors of disagreements between Trump and Haley over their international policies, but the official made it clear “the pride she felt in working for him.”

Haley, 51, ran for president representing “a new generation of leaders.”

Vivek Ramaswamy

Ramaswamy, a businessman and writer turning 39 on election day, has become known within a section of the Republican Party for his “anti-woke” leanings. According to the New York Times, the candidate, like most right-wing parties, opposes promoting political, social and environmental causes.

However, Ramaswamy is not well known to the general population of the United States as he never held any political position.

Asa Hutchinson

Hutchinson, a 72-year-old American politician, is the fourth candidate for president of the United States for the Republican Party. He served as governor of the state of Arkansas from 2015 to 2023.

He also served as a congressman and headed the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Department of Homeland Security’s Directorate of Transportation and Border Security.

In his public statements, he has criticized Donald Trump and has said he should pull out of the election race.

Larry elder

Elder, the fifth Republican presidential nominee, has a supportive community he has cultivated on his radio show The Larry Elder Show, which he hosted from 1993 to 2008, and again from 2010 to 2014. The host was a 2021 California gubernatorial candidate, unsuccessfully.

He represents the far-right tendencies of the Republican Party, as he champions anti-vaccination positions, wants to scrap basic wages, remove corporate taxes, ban abortion, and abolish gun control.

Elder will turn 72 in November 2024.

Tim Scot

Scott is the current representative for the state of South Carolina in the United States Senate. He was a member of the Charleston County Council and a representative in the Charleston County House of Representatives.

The 57-year-old politician is the first black Republican senator from the American South. He describes himself as religious and conservative, and has championed the position of banning abortion after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy.

He has also said that the United States is not a racist country, based on the success story of his grandfather, who was a laborer in the cotton fields.

Ron DeSantis

DeSantis, a 44-year-old politician, has emerged as one of the strongest candidates in the Republican Party. In his role as governor of Florida, which he has held since 2019, he has gained a large number of supporters who support his right-wing views.

Notable among some of his political stances are the strict immigration rules he has introduced in Florida to criminalize the presence of undocumented migrants, in addition to conflicts with Disney, the company that has publicly opposed its policies against the LGBTQ population.

DeSantis opposes legalizing recreational marijuana, abortion rights, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, among other things. Signed into law the Parental Rights in Education Act, which prohibits the discussion or mention of LGBTQ community issues or racial history in Florida public school classrooms at all levels

He also enacted a law prohibiting state and federal funds from being allocated to diversity, equality, and inclusion programs at state universities.

In the Republican Party, DeSantis has become a rival to Trump.

Mike Pence

Pence, who was vice president under Donald Trump, recently announced his candidacy for president. Despite previously being allied with the former president, their relationship took a turn for the worse when he refused to try to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election, which Trump lost.

The politician, who describes himself as “Christian, conservative, and Republican, in that order,” also served as a congressman from 2001 to 2013 and governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017. His political agenda aims to ban abortion, protect freedom of religion, and limit the participation of transgender people in sports competitions.

chris christie

Christie is one of the Republican Party’s latest nominees, and it’s his second time running for president of the United States, having been overtaken by Trump in the 2016 race. The 60-year-old official served a few years as governor of New Jersey.

The politician has also presented himself as a rival to Trump and DeSantis, publicly criticizing both candidates, especially after the 2021 Capitol bombing. (I)
