Charging your phone overnight? This mistake could cost you your life

Charging a mobile phone overnight is a common practice. Equipment left unattended may, however, contribute to a fire, thus directly threatening our lives.

Charging your mobile phone overnight is a common practice. However, many people do not realize that it carries a great danger. On the one hand, the risk concerns the equipment itself, and on the other hand, our health and even life.

Charging your phone at night. Harmful to the battery, dangerous to the owner

One of the frequently raised topics in the context of a night phone is its harmful effect on the battery. It is true that the equipment, after reaching the maximum charge level, cuts off the power supply, but with each percentage lost, the power consumption process is restarted. This translates into the condition of the phone, which wears out faster, which makes it unable to last long without a charger. However, faster aging of expensive equipment or senseless use of electricity are not the biggest disadvantages of this practice. Leaving the charging phone unattended overnight may result in a short-circuit in the electrical installation and, consequently, even a fire. Since most of us put a charging phone in the immediate vicinity of the bed (if only so that it can wake us up in the morning), the source of a possible fire will also be dangerously close to us.

Do you hide your charging phone under your pillow? Here’s what could happen

An even worse idea is to sleep with your phone connected to it or hide it under your pillow. Bedding, duvet, sheet or mattress are flammable materials, which in combination with an overheating device may ignite easily. It should also not be forgotten that devices of this type tend to explode in the event of overheating or a serious failure of the battery.
