Huawei FreeBuds 5 headphones are the work of designers who let their imagination run wild [TOPtech]

Just a few years ago, True Wireless headphones were the pinnacle of technological possibilities. Today, almost every manufacturer offers them, and the cheapest models can be purchased for as little as a few dozen zlotys.

Is it worth choosing a higher-end device that costs much more? And how does this translate into sound quality? Here are some things you should know about the Huawei FreeBuds 5 headphones.

Appearance +

The first thing to mention is the design of the headphones, and thus – also the comfort of use. After opening a relatively large box, a rather unusual view appears to our eyes. Instead of a classic design, we get long, but narrowed in the central part of the fleas, which resemble water drops detaching from the tap. Design is quite a controversial issue here. The headphones look like the result of the work of crazy designers, who were finally allowed to let their imagination run wild.

The FreeBuds 5 are unlike anything else we have on the market today. They are also not very elegant, but definitely catch the eye. What’s more, Huawei did not opt for the extremely popular in-ear design in this case, focusing on in-ear headphones, which will certainly please the opponents of the former.

Convenience +/-

Such and no other design, however, means that you have to get used to wearing FreeBuds 5 a bit. In terms of comfort, the new Huawei headphones arouse quite mixed feelings. On the one hand, it is often difficult to properly seat these types of fleas in the ears. On the other hand, when we finally do it correctly, they stick great and will stay in them until we take them out ourselves.

Sound quality +

The most important aspect of any headphones, however, is sound quality, and here the FreeBuds 5 definitely do not disappoint. The sound is clean, soft and pleasant to listen to. It also has a surprising amount of bass. Especially when we boost it with one of the sound effects prepared by the producer. The rest of the band suffers from this a bit, so it’s worth playing with the application dedicated to headphones, which allows, for example, to boost the treble, improving the sound quality.

The manufacturer has not forgotten about the support for the LDAC audio codec, which allows you to send high-quality sound to the headphones. Overall, it’s very good, and the sound quality of the FreeBuds reminds me of the older, but still great Samsung headphones – Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. However, it’s time for the biggest disadvantage of the device, which is, unfortunately, the suppression of ambient noise. ANC, i.e. active noise reduction, is of course present here, but it works quite … average.

Noise reduction –

Of course, this and not another design of the headphones meant that the ears are not perfectly cut off from the environment, but still, something more could be expected from a high-end device. Damping power is also quite limited. Moreover, the right and left headphones often cut us off from noise to a different degree. What’s worse, in quiet rooms you can hear a characteristic, unpleasant noise. FreeBuds 5 will definitely not be the best choice on a busy street, on a train or plane, but they cope quite nicely, for example with the noise of air conditioning in the office.

Control and application +

However, a big plus belongs to Huawei for music control that works really well. From the level of the touch panels of the headphones, we can e.g. turn ANC on and off, change tracks, pause tracks, adjust the volume, and answer or reject incoming calls. The AI Life application is also worth praising, although unfortunately Android smartphone users will not find it in the Play Store. So you have to go to the manufacturer’s website and download the apk file or use the App Gallery store.

Another plus is the battery. The manufacturer promises 30 hours on a single charge and in fact FreeBuds 5 can easily withstand several days of intensive work away from the socket. It is also worth praising the manufacturer for not forgetting about the possibility of inductive charging, which some people often use. Huawei FreeBuds 5 can now be found in stores for about PLN 700. So it’s not cheap, but the price differs too much from the amounts that should be set aside for the purchase of headphones from the Chinese company’s competitors.
