Doctor Tecno Labs: Honor 50 seeks its independence

HONOR’s new phone is equipped with a professional-grade quad camera setup.

For many, the Honor brand must sound somewhat strange, but it is what until recently was the younger brother of the Chinese brand Huawei. However, they are now trying to distance themselves from that legacy and forge their own. That is why these days they have presented their model 50 in Ecuador, which is considered the first of the brand in this new stage of its life. At Doctor Tecno we have had the chance to test it for a few days and these are our first impressions.

At first glance you can see that it has a very current design and that it is in line with the trends of other devices in its category. The look Generally, it resembles the Samsung Galaxy S, with a borderless screen, but with a rounded finish. It integrates an ultra-thin bezel on the front and 2.5 D polished glass edges at the top and bottom of the screen. It has colors and textures that give it a look More striking. The model we were able to test has an iridescent finish with a white and gray base.

It has three physical buttons on the sides and the fingerprint sensor is located below the screen.

On the same back it adopts a double ring camera design formed by two circles on the back, taking inspiration from the classic ring designs of luxury jewelry brands and classic cameras. The top circle, which features the main chamber, is polished with the same metal ring on the edge.

The HONOR 50 has a curved 6.57-inch Full HD 2,340 x 1,080 OLED screen. It can display 1.07 billion colors and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, so you get images with crisp, clear detail and an immersive color experience.

It is equipped with a screen refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 300 Hz. It promises a high speed of screen response, to deliver a great video and game viewing experience with less input lag.

As it includes a smart dynamic refresh rate, users can adjust based on on-screen actions, helping to save power consumption.

In terms of performance, it has a Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 778G 5G processor, which improves CPU and GPU performance by 45% and AI processing power by 123% compared to the previous generation.

It is also equipped with GPU Turbo X, a graphics acceleration technology, to deliver powerful performance even during the most demanding mobile games.

HONOR’s new phone is equipped with a pro-level quad camera setup on the back, with its 108 MP main camera. In addition, it has an 8 MP wide angle lens, 2 MP macro and 2 MP depth.

The front camera is 32 MP with a 90º angle of view, so that users can take perfect selfies and videos regardless of the number of people or the breadth of landscapes. This camera has an algorithm that automatically adjusts to capture them all with the wide angle lens.

In the area of video, the HONOR 50 offers flexibility when recording content from different angles and perspectives, as users can switch between the front and rear cameras at the same time with six Multi-Video recording modes.

They can also activate beauty mode, capture photos from videos, and use preset video story templates on the phone.

Featuring a single cell dual circuit battery design, the HONOR 50 easily withstands a full day of uninterrupted use, thanks to its 4,300 mAh battery.
