“They called me crazy”: A woman spent 54 years with a stone in her left eye, went to more than 20 doctors and lost her eyesight

How did that stone get into one of Domi’s eyes?

I was a child when this sad story of medical malpractice began. The year was 1965 and Domi was 8 years old.

Once they even asked me to remove the eye because they thought it was a cyst, but I refused.

Today she is convinced that she has “three guardian angels” and points out: “the ophthalmologist who saw her in Plasencia and sent her to Badajoz, the doctor who operated on her and her lawyer.”

Depression and surgery

Domi suffered a lot and fell prey to depression. For 14 years, he said, he resorted to sleeping pills. They told him it was an allergy or conjunctivitis and prescribed ointments.

After learning that they will reimburse her 90,000 euros, she responds: “I see that justice has been done. They thought I was stupid, stupid,” 20 Minutes reported.

He was confident that one day the ordeal would come to an end and he is happy to have arrived at the office of an ophthalmologist in Badajoz, “who could see the stone. After three days they called me and at the age of 15 they removed the stone”.

Domi is accompanied by Jesus, her son. This, quoted in 20 Minutes, described how he saw his mother these years.

“Until we finally found a specialist doctor who removed it. It’s something surreal. When we heard about the stone, we talked to some lawyers who didn’t believe us, luckily our lawyer believed us and wanted to take the case,” he said.

Domi says she lives “happily” today. According to 20 Minutes, he plans to have surgery and restore his sight with the money from the fee.
