The Panamanian Attorney General’s Office has announced the opening of an investigation into the alleged crime of terrorism following the bomb threats to several schools.
“The primary care division of the Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office has launched an ex officio investigation into the alleged commission of the crime of terrorism, in light of threats that occurred at several schools across the country, today, May 12, 2023,” it was stated.
The police also assessed the facts, explaining that the threats reached schools in the capital and Panama Pacifico.

At least nine schools received the threatening email and contacted police, prompting them to evacuate and verify explosives.
After the evaluations, it was determined that these were false.
National Police Commissioner Juan Arango said the threat indicated bombs had been placed in or around educational facilities.

“#FalseAlarm | We call on the general public not to give rise to these distracting elements that want to create chaos and unrest among the population, possibly to commit other criminal acts,” the National Police said on their social networks.
This week, several schools in Argentina were evacuated for sending bomb threats after a young man with a history of doing so was arrested.
