Colombian authorities are investigating death of two adolescents aged 13 and 14 as a possible case of cyberbullying happened inside Toledo, in the department of Antioquia (northwest).
“Unfortunately we got the news of the death, apparently, for suicide of two minors in the municipality of Toledo on April 24 and 25Antioquia Security Minister Oswaldo Zapata said at a press conference this Friday.
The reason that apparently led one of the young women to commit suicide It was an intimate photo that the minor under the age of 14 had sent to her boyfriend, image shared in school “chats” and WhatsApp chains with other people from the city, according to local media.
Zapata added that because they were alleged suicides, authorities have issued a “judicial inquiry route” to clarify “very precisely” the facts and “the agents who could supposedly be related” with the factors that led to this sad outcome.”

In the case of the 13-year-old girl, that Tuesday she was found dead in the hamlet of La Cascarerathe reasons are not clear.
According to the Minister of Inclusion of Antioquia, Pedro Hoyosthe girls were in seventh and eighth grades. “In all municipalities there is a problem as complex as ‘purchasing’, which we are investigating. In the municipality of Toledo we have never had a case of suicide and certainly not of two girls.”insisted the official.
Secretary Zapata insisted that the preliminary information from the police and the prosecutor’s office indicates “that the two events have nothing to do with each other.”
Given the commotion the two deaths caused in the city, the Mayor’s Office organized the colloquium ‘Cyberbuyling, a silent threat among teenagers’ and established a mental health committee with hotlines under the “We want you to live, let’s listen to you” campaign.
