9to5Mac: iOS 16 introduces location lock on iPhone

Apple has learned to block iPhone functions based on its regional affiliation. This is reported by the publication 9to5Mac.

Media experts found in the iOS 16.2 code. an option that allows you to limit a number of iPhone features. According to the authors, restrictions may be caused by Apple policy or the requirement of the laws of certain countries.

The new feature will determine the location of the smartphone by geolocation, region code from the Wi-Fi router and information received from the SIM card. “With all this information combined, it will become more difficult for users to bypass these restrictions,” the journalists noted.

The material states that some iPhone features are limited depending on the location of the device. So, in the UAE, FaceTime video calls are disabled on iOS. 9to5Mac experts suggested that the innovation may be due to the emergence of a feature that will allow consumers from the European Union to install applications on iPhone bypassing the App Store. Thus, Apple does not want the limited option to be used by smartphone owners from other countries.

At the end of April, it became known that iPhone users would be allowed to install applications bypassing the App Store, sources told Bloomberg. According to insider Mark Gurman, a new feature will appear in iOS 17.
