Counterpoint: Apple led the refurbished smartphone market in 2022
In 2022, Apple and Samsung sold the most refurbished smartphones. This is reported in a report by Counterpoint Research.
Analysts at the company said the market for refurbished devices — used devices ready for resale — grew by just 5 percent last year. This is less than it could be, which is associated with a decline in the market for remanufactured devices in China by 17 percent.
Analysts named Apple as the market leader, which received a share of 49 percent – in 2021 the company had a share of 44 percent. The second manufacturer of popular devices was Samsung Corporation, whose share fell from 28 to 26 percent over the year. The top also includes Chinese manufacturers Vivo, Oppo and Huawei.
Demand for refurbished devices is driven by growing consumer shifts from feature phones to smart phones in emerging markets, experts say. “The level of confidence in refurbished smartphones has grown in all markets,” the authors of the report noted. Also, experts said that ASP (average selling price, average selling price) of such gadgets continues to grow.
Earlier, Canalys experts said that Samsung was the leader of the global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2023. Apple is in second position and Xiaomi is in third.
