Marco Edson Gonçalves Dias became the first minister in Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s government to leave office. This after revelation via CNN videos of the day of the raid of supporters of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro on official buildings.

Gonçalves Dias, the head of the Brazilian presidency’s Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI), resigned on Wednesday following the revelation of videos of him being observed at the Planalto Palace during the events. He circulated the corridors of the building and even communicated with protesters to indicate where the exit is.

“I have placed my position at the disposal of the President of the Republic so that the whole investigation can be carried out,” he said in an interview with the channel. GloboNews in which he defended his trial.

The videos also show at least two GSI officials shaking hands and giving bottles of water to the intruders, according to CNN.

“I entered the Planalto Palace after it was invaded and I removed people from the third and fourth floors so that they could stop them (…) In the room next to the President’s office, I removed three people and ordered them to come down” Gonçalves Dias justified in the interview.

Consisting mainly of military personnel, the GSI advises the head of state on national security and defense issues and is responsible for the personal safety of the president, vice president and their families.

During the break-in, there were “many remaining teams from the previous management, including in the GSI, which were separated in the following days,” the presidency said in a statement on Wednesday.

“All military personnel involved on January 8 are being identified and investigated,” the government added.
