Two splinters from the “Vera Cruz”, the cross with which Jesus Christ was crucified, were given to the United Kingdom for use in King Carlos III’s coronation which will take place on May 6.

One of the fragments measures 5 millimeters and the other one centimeter and is placed on a ceremonial silver cross that was blessed on Wednesday.

When is the coronation of King Charles III in the UK?

The splinters are placed in the Welsh Cross in the same shape and are visible through a pink glass gem. He is expected to lead the coronation procession.

The Archbishop of Wales, Andrew John, blessed the new Welsh Cross in front of dignitaries and parishioners at a religious service in Llandudno, in the north of that British country.

The cross “speaks of our Christian faith, our heritage, our resources and our commitment to sustainability,” the archbishop said.

“We are also delighted that its first use is to lead Their Majesties (Charles and Camilla) to Westminster Abbey during the coronation service,” he added.

Charles donated the Welsh Cross to the Anglican Church in Wales to mark its centenary.

After the coronation, it will be shared by the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches of Wales.
