Xiaomi opposed its inclusion in the list of “war sponsors” of the NAPC

The Chinese company Xiaomi has reacted to the decision of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) of Ukraine to include it in the list of “war sponsors”. This was reported on the corporation’s website.

“Xiaomi is a consumer electronics company that offers products exclusively for civilian and commercial use,” representatives of the IT giant said. The company said in a statement that the company does not support any military action – thus, the corporation opposed its inclusion in the list of “war sponsors”.

Xiaomi also stated that they support the right of every consumer in the world to access the means of communication and information on the Internet. “We have consumer businesses in more than 100 countries and regions, and we comply with all laws and regulations in all jurisdictions where we operate,” the statement says.

On April 14, the NAPC included Xiaomi in the list of “international sponsors of the war” due to the company’s continued operation in Russia after the start of a special military operation (SVO). A statement on the agency’s website says that in 2022 the corporation doubled its market share and is now the leader in smartphone sales in Russia.

In early March, Kommersant journalists reported that the most popular smartphone brands among Russians in 2022 were Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung, Apple, Tecno. The popularity of Chinese brands and the decline in the average cost of a smartphone were associated with the departure of expensive models from the Apple and Samsung brands from the market.
