More than 200 migrants were rescued in Mexico on Wednesday evening after they were abandoned in a trailer drying box on the Villahermosa-Coatzacoalcos highway in Veracruz.

The National Institute of Migration announced that the 209 migrants had four nationalities: Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador and Honduras.

Through a statement, they reported that around midnight, along with the National Guard, they heard cries for help, so when the compartment was opened, men and women began to appear, as well as minors, asking to get both air and water.

Structures and planks were placed inside the box to create a second floor to carry more migrants. One person showed signs of suffocation and had to be taken to a medical center.

Authorities said they found 144 adults from Guatemala, six from Honduras, six from El Salvador and five from Ecuador, as well as nine family nuclei from those countries and 25 unaccompanied minors from Guatemala.
