Twitter Inc. just ceased to exist. The service was taken over by the mysterious company X. What is Elon Musk up to?

Elon Musk quietly got rid of Twitter, Inc., which owned the Twitter social networking site. It was taken over by X Corp., which also belongs to the billionaire. After changing the logo, is it time to change the name of the platform?

Not a day goes by that Twitter under the rule of Elon Musk does not surprise with some unexpected change or controversial decision. Last week, the platform suddenly changed its logo (at least on mobile devices) to the well-known meme “doggy”, as the billionaire announced in one of his tweets. After a few days, Twitter returned to its old logo, but now it has quietly changed its owner.

Elon Musk gave Twitter to the mysterious company X Corp.

The social platform Twitter has so far belonged to Twitter, Inc., which was taken off the stock exchange after being bought by Elon Musk for $44 billion and became the property of the billionaire. Now information has leaked into the network that this company … no longer exists. Interestingly, neither Twitter nor Musk himself wrote about it, not a word. The change was noticed in a file that went to a California court in connection with a lawsuit filed against Twitter by far-right activist Laura Loomer. The documents show that the current owner of the portal is X Corp.

This company was registered in the first half of March by Elon Musk himself and is wholly owned by X Holdings Corp., which also belongs to the billionaire. Like , the platform was not and does not belong to a public company, so Elon Musk does not have to report changes to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) such as taking over the platform by another company or changing the name of the company. Therefore, we also do not know when the Twitter platform became the property of the mysterious company X Corp.

What is Elon Musk up to? This could be the backbone of his X empire

It is possible that the change of the owner of the social network with the blue bird in the logo is part of the construction of a large service platform, which Musk is to call “X, the everything app”. The billionaire announced the creation of such an application even before the purchase of Twitter, and the acquisition of the portal – as he tweeted in October – will help the new service with the letter X in its name.

It is speculated on the web that X, the everything app is to be something like the Chinese WeChat platform, which is not only a social networking site and messenger. It also allows order meals and pay in stores. Interestingly, in January it seemed that and enabling, for example, handling payments for online purchases. If true, it is possible that Twitter will become part of the billionaire’s great service empire.

Interestingly, Elon Musk has an unusual fondness for the letter X. This was the name of the online bank (X.com) that Musk and three other people founded in 1999. It was not his first business (four years earlier he founded Zip2 with his brother), but it was him who started the dynamic career of the current billionaire. X.com merged with Confinity in 2000, but due to a disagreement with the other owners, Musk left the company (making a fortune) and it changed its name to PayPal. In 2017, however, the billionaire bought back the rights to the X.com domain, explaining that it had sentimental value for him.
