The so-called suggestions, i.e. hints from Microsoft on how to best use the computer, have been appearing in Windows systems for a long time. However, the American giant did not hide the fact that he would like ads to appear in his system. This is what happened in February this year, when third-party advertising spots appeared in the Microsoft Store application store. However, this is not the end.
Microsoft is testing ads in the Start Menu
As noted by the English-language tech media, various types of ads have now also started popping up in Windows 11 when you open the Start Menu. Messages appear in the lower left corner of this area and encourage you to install or use various services of the American giant – e.g. create a OneDrive cloud backup or set up a Microsoft account. It seems that – at least for now – the ads only promote the tools of Microsoft itself and are quite subtle. However, you can’t completely opt out of them, but only postpone the notification for later, which can be quite annoying.
Advertisements (in this form) appeared with the update to the KB5023778 version of Windows 11, which is currently in the testing phase (available only for volunteers). Earlier, however – as – some users have already reported ads appearing in Windows, among others. encouraging to install Windows 11 (Microsoft decided to take a similar step a few years ago when it persuaded people to download Windows 10) or encouraging to try the Microsoft 365 package.
So it seems that Microsoft is simply testing more ways to encourage users to use its own services, and perhaps collects user feedback in the process. Usually, however, tests are conducted in order to implement a similar solution in the finished version of the operating system. It is not difficult to guess that a large part of people will not like this novelty (to put it mildly). Especially if the ads cannot be turned off in the settings.
