TechRadar: Apple patents smartphone display that folds when dropped

Apple has described the concept of a screen for a foldable smartphone, protected from falls. This is reported by TechRadar.

The patent was found on the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The paper describes the design of a display for a foldable smartphone that can automatically fold when dropped. Thus, the technology will protect the front panel of the device.

According to the engineers of the American company, the invented technology involves the use of a number of sensors that respond to the fall of the smartphone from a certain height. At the moment when the device detects a fall, the screen will begin to fold. The document says that if the display is rotated even less than 180 degrees, then with hard physical contact there is a chance to maintain its integrity.

The patent also mentions the use of a special hinge fastening the two halves of the display, which, when folded, separates the screens, preventing the formation of a wrinkle. “It’s hard to say what it will be, for sure, because the document does not describe exactly how everything will work,” the journalists summed up.

In September 2022, an Apple patent for a display for foldable devices was discovered online. The document stated that the screen was designed to allow the display to straighten and stretch, thus eliminating small dents and scratches.
