In the first half of 2022, the transition process to the new DVB-T2/HEVC digital terrestrial television broadcasting system was completed (in several stages). It was also then (more precisely in March) that the possibility of submitting applications for co-financing the purchase of a set-top box or a TV set compliant with the new standard was launched (it ended at the end of last year).
More than half a million homes benefited from the subsidies
Now the number of beneficiaries of the program has been summarized. As reported by , referring to the data of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, they benefited from the aid jointly 543,724 householdsand for this purpose the government spent over PLN 68 million.
The vast majority of households decided to purchase set-top boxes enabling watching TV in the new broadcasting standard on an old TV set. As many as 450,372 applications for co-financing the purchase of a set-top box were approved. 93,352 homes decided to buy a TV set.
The Chancellery of the Prime Minister also calculated that still 14 percent. (approx. 990,000 homes) out of all households with receivers is not prepared to receive terrestrial television in the DVB-T2 standard. This is a decrease from approx. 32 percent. farms a year ago.
How much was the subsidy and how did you get it?
The amounts awarded under the program varied depending on the type of device. In the case of purchasing a set-top box, the state paid PLN 100 for this purpose. You could get PLN 250 for the purchase of a TV set.
The program also did not provide for subsidies for every citizen interested in purchasing one of the devices. The application had to be justified by the lack of funds for the purchase of a digital receiver in the new standard. In addition, the applicant had to be an adult and be registered in Poland. Each household could benefit from the subsidy once and only for one device (set-top box or TV set).
It is worth mentioning that the operation of switching to the new terrestrial television reception standard did not cover selected channels. Public stations (including TVP1 HD, TVP2 HD, TVP 3 and TVP Info) located in the MUX-3 and MUX-8 multiplexes still operate in the old standard. This is the result of a controversial decision of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, which also provoked protests from private broadcasters (forced to switch to the new system). Thus, some viewers have been cut off from commercial stations so far.
