The Tennis Federation of Ukraine opposed the boycott of tournaments with the participation of Russian athletes
The Tennis Federation of Ukraine opposed the boycott of tournaments with the participation of Russian athletes. The application is available on the organization’s website.
“If Russians and Belarusians are allowed to compete, you need to play with them and win, and not avoid the battle,” the message says. It is noted that a possible boycott of tournaments will be a sanction for Ukrainian athletes. In addition, the organization expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the Russians continue to compete in international competitions.
The Russians take part in the tournaments of the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association in a neutral status. At the same time, Russians are prohibited from competing in competitions under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation.
In January, the International Olympic Committee said that it was considering allowing Russians to compete in international tournaments, including the 2024 Olympic Games, in a neutral status, but there was no final decision on this issue. After that, the president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that the Ukrainian team could miss the Olympics in Paris if the teams of Russia and Belarus participate in it.
