OpenAI, the company behind the increasingly popular AI-based tool, unveiled a new model of its software on Tuesday. GPT-4 is intended to be an even more powerful language model than the currently available version (3.5).
ChatGPT already uses GPT-4
According to industry media, GPT-4 passed the legal exam for the American Bar Association. There are also no problems with passing high school tests. How much progress is made compared to the previous version is evidenced by the fact that the new tool allows you to gain a place among 10 percent. top passers.
“Not only can it write even more beautifully, but it can also find much more correlations/trends in the provided data. Another big step in the generational revolution unfolding before our eyes” – wrote MichaĆ Sadowski from Brand24 about the new version of the tool.
The tool is not perfect yet, as the head of OpenAI argues. “Still buggy, still limited, still more impressive the first time you use it than if you spend more time with it,” wrote Sam Altman on social media.
GPT-4 understands images and can create movies
The progress is not only in how the tool copes with text generation or searching for answers to questions. GPT-4 also understands images – you can send it a photo and ask what it sees and what it can say about the objects in the photo.
The practical application of this technology may be a breakthrough for people with visual disabilities. In the test application presented by the creators of the tool, it is enough to point the camera at an object to receive a voice description of what is seen in the frame.
In addition, the new OpenAI tool can create images and even videos.
Microsoft already uses GPT-4
Microsoft, which has invested a billion dollars in OpenAI, already uses GPT-4 in its services. The tech giant has decided to connect its Internet search engine, Bing, with GPT-4 and ChatGPT – users of the Microsoft Edge browser see a special window that allows you to use the service.
Integration with GPT-4 will allow Bing to provide users with a better experience and more efficient search. As a result of this combination, Bing will be able to track users’ activities and effectively deliver more personalized search results. Even Microsoft’s office suite uses GPT-4. The tool helps you write professional texts, check grammar and spelling, generate summaries and graphics, and suggest corrections and improvements.
Expert: People should never trust an algorithm
GPT-4 is also supposed to be more precise, creative, faster. It is worth noting, however, that this version of the language model has limited knowledge – its resource ends in 2021.
Lori MacVittie, chief engineer of F5, in an interview with Gazeta.pl, cools down the enthusiasm of those who would like to use the new tool without restrictions. “People should never trust an algorithm 100 percent because we don’t fully know the source data that was used to answer our query,” he says.
It also warns against mindless “feeding” of the artificial mind with private information. – If someone has shared their holiday photos with the algorithm, they should be aware of the fact that they may one day see their likeness on an advertising banner – he explains.
The new version of the service can be used by developers and subscribers of the ChatGPT Plus service.
